Last week Laura presented the Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, with a formal written proposal for a bridge over the railway line in Thatcham. This has been prepared in conjunction with Network Rail, West Berkshire Council and the Greenham Trust to address the delays residents experience daily at the level crossing.
Last year, Laura conducted a residents’ survey which attracted around 2,600 responses, 96% of whom said they were in favour of a bridge as a permanent solution to the issue. Since then, Laura has worked closely with Network Rail, West Berkshire Council and the Greenham Trust on a joint submission which Laura formally presented to the Transport Secretary last Tuesday. Laura said:
“The waits at the level crossing in Thatcham are unacceptably long and cause serious inconvenience for residents daily. I have explained the scale of the problem to the Department for Transport, and with this submission hope that it is now firmly on Department’s radar for future infrastructure projects."
